Chang Liu

Graduate Student
Chang was born in Maoming, China, and raised in Aurora, Colorado. She earned her bachelor's degree in integrative physiology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her first research experience, in Dr. Christopher Lowry's lab, sparked her fascination with microbes. There, she investigated the impact of lab domestication on rodent microbiomes. After graduating in 2020, Chang joined Dr. Ashley Wolf's lab at UC Berkeley, where she studied how factors like diet and microbial competition influence mammalian gut microbiomes. In the Tenthorey lab, Chang is interested in defining the evolutionary landscape of the HIV capsid and learning more about host-pathogen interactions. In her free time, Chang is entertaining her two cats or tending to her mini-patio garden.
